7 Tips for a Smooth Moving Process with Rupam Cargo Packers and Movers

Accessorial Services: These are additional services offered on top of the standard moving services, such as packing, appliance servicing, unpacking, distribution, assembly, and documentation. These services are available upon customer request and may incur extra charges beyond the base price.

Adjustor: The responsible company employee who manages and resolves claims related to damages or losses that occur during the moving process, ensuring customers are compensated fairly.

Agent: A local or authorized Packers and Movers representative that operates on behalf of a national company. They manage various aspects of the move, including the origin, booking, hauling, and/or destination services.

Advanced Charges: Charges incurred by third-party service providers, such as professional craftsmen or other specialists, who provide services requested by the customer. These charges are paid upfront by the moving company and added to the customer's final bill.

Certified Mover: An interstate carrier, certified by the Indian Government, responsible for transporting household goods. Certified movers follow a strict code of conduct and ensure efficient, professional service throughout the moving process.

Appliance Servicing: Specialized care for appliances, including securing movable parts and disconnection at the original home, followed by reinstallation at the new home to ensure safe and proper transportation.

APU (Authorized Pickup): A designated time for the pickup of goods, confirmed and authorized by the moving company to initiate the relocation process.

Average Transit Time: The general expected time frame it takes for goods to be delivered from the origin to the destination point, factoring in distance and logistics.

Bill of Lading: A contract and receipt issued by the moving company to the customer, signifying the goods have been received and loaded onto the carrier. This document also outlines the terms and conditions for transportation.

Binding / Non-Binding Estimate: A binding estimate provides a fixed price based on declared items and services, ensuring no surprises. A non-binding estimate, however, is an approximation based on expected weight and services and may be adjusted based on the actual weight or service changes.

Booking Agent: The individual or company responsible for registering and coordinating the move. They do not necessarily have to be near the origin or destination.

Cargo: Refers to the items or goods being transported by the moving company, whether by truck, van, or another method of transport.

Carrier: The company or individual that takes responsibility for the transportation of goods from the origin to the destination.

Carrier Liability: The amount of financial responsibility the carrier assumes in the event of damage or loss of goods during transit.

Claim: A formal request made by the customer to the moving company for compensation for any damage, loss, or delay experienced by their goods during transit.

C.O.D. (Cash on Delivery): A payment method where the customer pays for the services at the time of delivery, either by cash, check, or credit, depending on the agreement with the mover.

Commodity: An item or piece of merchandise being shipped or transported during the move.

Common Carrier: A transportation service provider that offers their services to the general public, regulated under a government license or authority.

Concealed Damage: Damage that is not visible on the outside of the package but is discovered when the goods are unpacked.

Concealed Loss: Loss or damage that is not detectable until the package is opened and inspected.

Consignee: The individual or company receiving the shipment or delivery at the destination address.

Consignor: The individual or company sending the shipment from the origin location.

Consolidated Shipment: A shipment where goods from multiple customers or companies are combined into one transport load, often to reduce costs.

Cubic Foot: A unit of measure that describes the volume capacity of a vehicle or shipping container. One cubic foot equals 1,728 cubic inches.

Customs Clearance: The process of meeting the regulatory requirements to bring goods into a different country, ensuring compliance with all legalities for international shipping.

Declared Value: The value assigned to the household goods for insurance purposes. The final insurance cost is based on the declared value, providing coverage in the event of loss or damage during the move.

Destination: The end location where the goods are to be delivered after being transported from the origin.

Destination Agent: A local representative at the delivery point responsible for coordinating the unloading and placement of goods.

Diversion: A situation where the customer changes the destination of the shipment after it has already been dispatched. This can result in additional transportation charges.

Estimate, Binding: A written agreement between the moving company and the customer that guarantees the total cost based on declared quantities and services for the move. It ensures a fixed price with no additional costs unless the scope of the move changes.

Estimate, Non-Binding: A preliminary estimate provided by the moving company based on the expected weight of the shipment and requested services. This is not a guarantee, and final charges will depend on the actual weight and services used.

ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival): The expected time frame when the shipment is anticipated to arrive at the destination.

Exclusive Use: A service option where the customer requests that only their shipment be transported in the vehicle, ensuring that no other shipments share the same space.

Extra Pickup/Delivery: Additional charges for stops or extra pickups and deliveries beyond the initial destination or origin point.
